Five Reasons to come and stay with us in Autumn 2017

Herdwick Sheep in Patterdale enoying the Autumn Colours
Reason Number 1 – Enjoy the autumn colours
Now is a great time to visit the Lakes. The leaves have turned and before the next ex-hurricane rips them all off the trees why not come and soak up the sights of the gold and red canopies. The bracken on the fells has gone from green to red and so there are plenty of splendid views to be had. And on a clear crisp day when the sky is blue (it does happen occasionally!) it really is a magical time to be here.

Young Stag on the top of Place Fell Patterdale
Reason Number 2 – Experience the Red Deer Rutting Season
In late October and early November the herd of wild red deer from Martindale come over to Place Fell in Patterdale for the annual rut. You’ll love the eerie sounds of the stags bellowing across the fells all day and all night – and if you bring your binoculars you can watch the deer on the side of Place Fell from our Patterdale Cottage.

Avoid the crowds this autumn in the Lake District
Reason Number 3 – Walk the fells without the crowds
Ever tried doing striding edge on a summers day? Avoid the maddening crowds at this time of year on Helvellyn, St Sunday, Dollywaggon, Fairfield, Place Fell and the rest. On a clear day the views are spectacular all the more so when you get to savour them by yourself. Never mind “mindfulness”, just savour the solitude…

Cyril the Red Squirrel in our garden behind The How Cottage in Patterdale
Reason Number 4 – Watch the Red Squirrels
It’s a busy time of year for the red squirrels getting ready for winter. We have several who are regular visitors to the bird feeders at our Patterdale Cottage and if you head up the Grisedale Valley or to the foot of Place Fell you’re sure to see some busy friends of Cyril gathering and storing ahead of the snow..

Morgan enjoing the view of Ullswater from the side of Place Fell
Reason Number 5 – We have some great last minute deals
We have short breaks from just £300 and full week stays from just £450 at our Ullswater Holiday Cottages. What’s not to like? So why not check our availability calendar and come and enjoy a break in the Lakes now.

Fancy seeing you here…..
